It's worth knowing...

History and the present day

The creation of the Library began simultaneously with the setting up of the Medical University’s Hospital departments in April 1945. The collection of books was placed in the pavilion no. 30, on the premises of the State Clinical Hospital no. 1.

Inauguration of the new edifice took place on October 1, 1968. It is in this building that the Main Library is situated up to the present day.

Today's Library is a modern center of medical information. Using the latest information technology Library provides quick and easy access to its resources, both locally and remotely, as well as provides a wide range of online services.

Library has been awarded multiple times. On Library's website you can find out more about it's history and the present day.

Library - a place to meet art and culture

The Main Library is a place to study and work, but it is also a important place to meet other people, to visit some interesting exhibitions and take part in cultural events.

We invite you to:

  • visit our exhibitions of new Library acquisitions (check out the newest items acquired online) as well as many different subject expositions in the Main Library's building,
  • read Librorum Amator (in Polish) the occasional bulletin of the Main Library,

  • take part in the Wieczór w Bibliotece, an event organized by us each May to celebrate Polish Libraries' Week worldwide festival of librarians.
