2024-02-11 We present the new system of the MUG Main Library

Albert Einstein supposedly said "The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library". And while the location of the MUG’s Library remains the same, we are changing the library system and the online catalog, i.e. the source of information about our collection. That is definitely worth knowing!

The currently implemented integrated Alma system is used in more than 1,800 institutions around the world. Its implementation is co-financed from funds obtained under the non-competitive project entitled "Supporting processes of university consolidation" realized by the Ministry of Education and Science under the Operational Program Knowledge Education Development co-financed by the European Social Fund (contract no. MEiN/2022/DIR/3438).

A new online catalog linked to the Primo Search will be used to search the book collection and electronic resources of our library and the libraries of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk. The functions and facilities of this catalog will support you during your studies, research work or preparation of publications. However, you will be able to make full use of it only after signing in.
The new catalog uses the university's authentication system, so from now on, in order to use your library account, you will sign in, in the same way as to? the university's mail or Extranet. External users (outside MUG) will be asked to create a new password the first time they try to sign in.

Catalogue

Signing in to your library account is an important step, as certain information (e.g., book availability) does not display to non-logged-in users. By signing in, you will be able to order and borrow textbooks and scientific books, use electronic resources, check your library account, as well as save interesting searches, or use the option of sending data to designated reference managers.

2023-12-18 MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

2023-12-17 Attention! Changing of the library system

The Main Library of the MUG informs that at the beginning of February 2024, the library system with which you can order and borrow our collections and use electronic resources will be changed.

Therefore, please check the borrowed books - return those already used and extend the deadline for returning those still needed. We also ask all "debtors" to settle any arrears.

The new system will be launched from February 1-11, 2024. These days ordering and borrowing books will be blocked. Only information about collections and the ability to browse e-resources will be available.

On February 5-10, 2024, the Main Library and the Library of the Faculty of Pharmacy will be closed.

Changing of the library system is also important for students who should complete the mandatory subject on time:

  • Information Literacy
    (1st term: to December 22, 2023; 2nd term - the last chance: January 2-20, 2024).

Otherwise, another chance to pass it will be in the new academic year.

We encourage everyone using the Library to follow information about further stages of implementation. On our website and in the social media we will post instructions on how to log in and use the new system.

2023-10-20 Open Access Week in the MUG Main Library (23-29.10.2023)

The Main Library invites you to join celebration of Open Access Week!

This interbational event was initiated by the SPARC in 2008 and has grown rapidly since then.

This year's edition will be held under the theme Community over Commercialization. The organizers encourage to reflect whether the current approach to open science is implementing the original assumptions of the idea. They are proposing to discuss about "inequitable extraction of profit from publicly funded scietific activities" and encourage the promotion of non-commercial collaborative publishing models, such as e.g. Diamond Open Access, where publications are available openly and the author does not bear any costs.

On that occassion, we have prepared a game in the theme of research data – a virtual escape room. You can expect a solid dose of knowledge, accompanied with an uncommon sense of humour and puzzles.

The game will be available via the Library's website and Facebook profile from Monday October 23 to Sunday October 29.

2022-10-24 Open Access Week in the MUG Main Library (24-30.10.2022)

International Open Access Week is an initiative that seeks to prove that knowledge is a human right and to promote concept of Open Science and scientific collaboration across social, geographic and economic boundaries. It was initiated by SPARC and continues since 2008.

The theme of this year’s Open Access Week was “Open for Climate Justice”. Why was this particular issue chosen to be addressed? Climate changes are among the global society’s biggest challenges. No doubt about it. And everyone has to face them. However, not everyone is affected by them equally. As many as 67% of natural disasters occur in the countries of Global South – in Africa, Latin America, parts of Asia and Oceania. Most of these countries are considered as developing countries without insufficient access to free knowledge. Knowledge that is crucial to tackle climate crisis. That is why we want to promote free sources of information, accessible to all people. From Monday till Friday (24-28.10) we shared on our Facebook chosen articles from Polish Platform of Medical Research concerning climate changes. We encourage you to read them!

About workshop:

We live in the global world that is challenged with global problems – the pandemic, climate crisis, migration and refugees seeking shelter from horrendous conflicts and wars. We are all interdependent and if we do not learn how to cooperate across nations, cultures and regions we will not come even close to solving any of these problems. Cultural intelligence is one of the key social competences necessary to foster such cooperation and a necessary asset if you work in cross-cultural setting. During this 1,5 hour meeting we will focus on how to be inclusive and open to diversity and develop our cultural intelligence that can be used in solving interpersonal conflicts.

Natasza Kosakowska-Berezecka has a PhD in Psychology and works as an Associate Professor in the Division of Cross-Cultural Psychology and Psychology of Gender at the University of Gdańsk. Her main area of practice and research is gender equality, diversity and work-life balance within the area cross-cultural psychology and her special interests are mechanisms of bias, social change and organizational cues fostering social capital and diversity within organizations and societies across the world. She lectures at Polish universities but also abroad (Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge; Arctic University of Norway, Tromso; University of Brunel, Uxbridge, London; Universidad de Granada, Spain; Delhi University, India; University of Geneve, Switzerland). As diversity expert she also co-authored the Integrative Model for Migrants for City of Gdańsk.

Hope to see you in the Library!
