Joanna Osika, Paulina Biczkowska and Jakub Rusakow from the MUG Main Library were chosen for the second time as one of just a few teams to participate in the FAIR-IMPACT program. It is funded by European Commission and its aim is to support implementation of FAIR data principles in European research services.
This time they will realise project #2: Creating EOSC compliant interoperability policies based on EOSC Interoperability Framework (IF). During several workshops they will have to provide feedback on the interoperability guidelines as well as assess and improve the interoperability level of the Polish Platform of Medical Research of the MUG. In the future, this should contribute to greater opportunities for cooperation with other European services and enhance visibility of the presented content within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). |

The international Love Data Week campaign always takes place during the week of Valentine's Day. This year's theme is "Whose Data Is It, Anyway?", which aims to draw attention to the non-obvious issue of ownership of research data. Data can be shared, published, reused, and the end user is not always aware of where it really comes from. On the occasion of Love Data Week, every day throughout the week we will be sharing data management tips on the Facebook page of the MUG Main Library. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with them, as well as to take part in the numerous webinars, events and trainings organized as part of Love Data Week. Their list can be found here. |

In order to ensure access to the best possible sources of information, we have launched a new tool in the MUG Library Catalogue - the Primo Research Assistant. This is one of the most modern solutions, using artificial intelligence technology, which allows you to create search queries using natural language. This tool uses most of the content found in the Library's e-resources to identify five documents that can help answer the question asked. Then, it extracts the most important information from the description/summary of each source and saves the answer. Thanks to the ability to create search queries in natural languages, searching is definitely more intuitive. Because, using the GPT 3.5 multilingual model, the question asked is automatically converted into a query understandable to the search engine. This model also allows you to add instructions to the query regarding the specific language in which you want to get the answer.

Here's how to use Primo Research Assistant:

Unfortunately, the Primo Research Assistant does not yet support follow-up questions. As such, each question is interpreted independently of the others.

Albert Einstein supposedly said "The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library". And while the location of the MUG’s Library remains the same, we are changing the library system and the online catalog, i.e. the source of information about our collection. That is definitely worth knowing! The currently implemented integrated Alma system is used in more than 1,800 institutions around the world. Its implementation is co-financed from funds obtained under the non-competitive project entitled "Supporting processes of university consolidation" realized by the Ministry of Education and Science under the Operational Program Knowledge Education Development co-financed by the European Social Fund (contract no. MEiN/2022/DIR/3438). A new online catalog linked to the Primo Search will be used to search the book collection and electronic resources of our library and the libraries of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk. The functions and facilities of this catalog will support you during your studies, research work or preparation of publications. However, you will be able to make full use of it only after signing in. Signing in to your library account is an important step, as certain information (e.g., book availability) does not display to non-logged-in users. By signing in, you will be able to order and borrow textbooks and scientific books, use electronic resources, check your library account, as well as save interesting searches, or use the option of sending data to designated reference managers. |

We are pleased to inform that from January 1, 2024, the MUG Main Library has started subscriptions to two new databases that MUG staff and MUG students or PhD students can use:
|
|
Embase (Elsevier) - next to Medline, the most important bibliographic database, collecting information on literature in the field of biomedical sciences. It contains over 8 thousand of journals (approx. 3,000 more than Medline) and is equipped with its own controlled Emtree dictionary of dedicated search terms. Embase also uses the PICO method in a search. Therefore, it is widely recognized as the basic database for conducting systematic reviews.
|

The Main Library of the MUG informs that at the beginning of February 2024, the library system with which you can order and borrow our collections and use electronic resources will be changed.
Therefore, please check the borrowed books - return those already used and extend the deadline for returning those still needed. We also ask all "debtors" to settle any arrears.
The new system will be launched from February 1-11, 2024. These days ordering and borrowing books will be blocked. Only information about collections and the ability to browse e-resources will be available.
On February 5-10, 2024, the Main Library and the Library of the Faculty of Pharmacy will be closed.
Changing of the library system is also important for students who should complete the mandatory subject on time:
Otherwise, another chance to pass it will be in the new academic year.
We encourage everyone using the Library to follow information about further stages of implementation. On our website and in the social media we will post instructions on how to log in and use the new system. |
