The program is available to corresponding authors affiliated with the Medical University of Gdańsk.
The program allows for the publication of a limited number of articles accepted for publication in the current year without incurring the APC fee. The pool of articles is shared among all institutions participating in the program.
In 2024, the pool consists of 97 articles, of which a maximum of 14 articles can be published in "High Impact" journals.

see: types of articles eligible for the program
If the article is accepted by the editorial team, the system will automatically verify whether it qualifies for the program based on the corresponding author's affiliation, the journal's title, and the article's type. If the article pool has not been exhausted, the author will receive an email from the publisher with information about the possibility of free Open Access publishing, followed by a second email with a link to the "Author Publishing Agreement" form.
If the author decides to use the program, the article will then be forwarded to an administrator, who will verify the author's affiliation in collaboration with the participating institutions.
More information can be found on the coordinator's website (ICM UW).
Under the Institutional Open Access Program of the MDPI publishing house, authors affiliated with the MUG may publish articles in MDPI journals with a 10% discount on the publication fees (APC).

The conditions for a discount granting:
The selection of the IOAP program takes place in the last stage of completing the application form, where the institution eligible for the discount must be indicated.
Besides Open Access Jounals demanding Article Processing Charges from authors, there are also so-called "diamond Open Access journals" (or platinum). They are free to read and do not require any fees from the authors. Below you can find list of this kind of journals based on Directory of Open Access Journals. The list contains points from the list of journals of Ministry of Science and Higher Education and after logging in into the Extranet, there is also available list compiled with Impact Factor. Nevertheless, you should always confirm the information about lack of APC's before submitting manuscript.
