The program is active from 28.04.2025 with pool of 1378 articles.
Springer Open Choice provides free publishing of open access articles under a CC BY license in Springer hybrid journals.
Updated list of journals included in the program:
https://vls.icm.edu.pl/zasady/2025/Springer/Publishing_List_ICM_Poland_2025.xlsx
Only the APC (article processing charge) is waived under the program. The program does not cover any other possible charges imposed by the journal (e.g., page charges, color figure charges, charges for articles exceeding standard length, etc.).
The program includes Original Paper, Review Paper, Brief Communication and Continuing Education. But the program does not include Editorial Notes, News and Letters.
The Compact License limits the number of articles that can be funded under the national program in a given year.
Authors whose articles are accepted for publication retain the copyright, including the right to disseminate their work under the "Creative Commons Attribution" (CC BY) license – see link. The final electronic version of the article is made available by the publisher and may also be archived and shared in the repository of the author's affiliated institution or the institution funding the Open Access. Springer also has an agreement with the PubMed Central repository, where full-text Open Access articles in biomedical sciences are deposited.
INSTRUCTIONS
The Open Access option funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) is available to corresponding authors affiliated with any Polish institution registered under the national Springer license and possessing an administrative account, through which local administrators verify authors’ affiliations (GUMed holds such an account). The affiliation of co-authors and the order of authors are not relevant.
The corresponding author receives a notification from the publisher confirming article acceptance and the beginning of the production phase. The notification includes a link to a page where the author must click “Request login email,” after which they will receive a second email with a link to the Open Access System Solution online form. In this form, the author selects their affiliation and confirms the Open Access option – see the presentation. (Note: the presentation is intended only for authors eligible to participate in the program and can only be downloaded from IP addresses registered in the Virtual Library of Science by academic institutions using the Springer license.)
The affiliation must be selected from a list containing all Polish institutions registered under the Springer license (note: institution names are listed in English; if there are difficulties finding an institution, please contact: wbn@icm.edu.pl). The selected institution must match the corresponding author's affiliation provided in the article, allowing for either Polish or English versions of the name.
After selecting the affiliation, a green box should appear with the message: “Open Access at no cost to you,” which refers to the agreement between Springer and ICM covering all Polish institutions on the list. All articles published under this agreement are funded by MNiSW and paid to Springer by ICM as an annual flat fee. After clicking “Yes, submit for approval” and verifying the affiliation, the author will receive a confirmation email.
The author may order color figures in the printed version of the journal, paper reprints, and posters – these costs are not covered by the national program and must be paid by the author. In this section of the form, the author is asked to re-enter their affiliation along with the address. If color prints, paper reprints, or posters are ordered, the author will also be asked to provide billing address details, which may differ from the affiliation.
The program is active from 06.05.2025 with pool of 1084 articles.
Open access publishing program in Elsevier hybrid and gold open access journals for corresponding authors affiliated with Polish institutions is part of the Elsevier national license and allows researchers to publish a specified number of articles in Elsevier journals in the open access model without incurring publication costs. The program covers the Article Processing Charge (APC) for open access publication. It does not cover any additional charges that may be imposed by individual journals independently of the APC. The total number of articles available for Open Access publication in 2025 is 1084. Elsevier offers access to over 1100 hybrid journals under the program. All inquiries regarding the program should be directed to Elsevier at support@elsevier.com |

The program is intended for corresponding authors affiliated with institutions participating in the consortium. In 2025, the program covers 90 journals published by ACS, including 71 hybrid journals and 19 fully open access journals. See: List of journals included in the 2025 program. In 2025, the total number of publications available under the program for all institutions is 437. The program includes all article types except: Additions and Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions. The program allows open access publication under the CC-BY license at no cost to authors for a specified number of articles accepted for publication within the current year. The pool is not divided among institutions, and articles are included in the program in the order of their acceptance for publication (determined by the “Manuscript Acceptance Date,” which may sometimes be listed in articles as the “Revised” date). |
The 2025 program has been launched without a limit on the number of articles.
Once the article is accepted by the journal, the corresponding author will receive an email with a link to the license agreement. To publish the article in Open Access, the author should choose one of the two forms available in the "Open Access Articles" section and select a Creative Commons license. The APC (Article Processing Charge) will be automatically waived based on the affiliation provided in the form. After selecting the appropriate country and institution, a list of journals included in the program for MUG authors will be available. We also recommend consulting the instructions for the Open Access publishing process in Cambridge University Press journals. |
The 2025 Program will be launched shortly. The program is intended for corresponding authors affiliated with institutions participating in the OUP consortium, including the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG). The program covers 357 hybrid journals from Oxford University Press (OUP). After the article is accepted, the author fills out an online form and should select the Open Access publication option. If the author uses an email address from the gumed.edu.pl domain, the system will automatically send a verification request to the consortium administrator and provide the author with further instructions. Authors using an email address outside the institutional domain should, upon acceptance of the article, manually contact the program coordinator (contact person: Anna Abramowska, AAbramowska@ebsco.com). A user guide for the program is also available. All questions regarding the program should be directed to the consortium coordinator's representative – Ebsco’s Anna Abramowska at AAbramowska@ebsco.com.

The program allows authors from Polish research institutions to publish up to 10 articles in Science Advances in 2025. Science Advances is the open-access version of the Science journal, which otherwise operates solely under a subscription model. This opportunity is available to corresponding authors affiliated with Polish institutions covered by the Science license, who have indicated this affiliation on the article’s title page. The publisher’s system automatically identifies articles eligible for the program based on the affiliation provided by the corresponding author. Corresponding authors whose articles are accepted for publication may also contact ICM at wbn@icm.edu.pl for additional support. |
Corresponding authors affiliated with one of the institutions participating in the consortium (including the Medical University of Gdańsk – MUG) may benefit from a pool of 17 free articles per year to be published in one of 249 LWW hybrid journals. Eligibility is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Articles must be accepted for publication within the given calendar year.
An author who wishes to use the program should, after receiving editorial acceptance, contact the LWW license coordinator via email and attach the first page of the accepted article. The coordinator will verify the author's affiliation and whether it is properly indicated in the article.
The LWW license and publishing program are coordinated by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM), University of Warsaw.
Contact: wbnoa@icm.edu.pl.
Information about the program is also available on the publisher’s website.
In 2025, the publication pool includes 137 articles, with a maximum of 15% allowed to be published in journals classified as “High Impact”.
The program is available to corresponding authors affiliated with the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG). It allows for Open Access publication without APC charges for a specified number of articles accepted for publication within the current year. The article pool is shared among all institutions participating in the program.
see: the list of journals
see: types of articles eligible for the program
Once an article is accepted by the journal, the system will automatically verify whether it qualifies for the program based on the corresponding author’s affiliation, the journal title, and the article type. If the article pool has not yet been exhausted, the author will receive an email from the publisher with information about the opportunity to publish Open Access free of charge, followed by another email with a link to the “Author Publishing Agreement” form.
If the author indicates in the form that they wish to participate in the program, the article will then be forwarded to an administrator, who will verify the author's affiliation in coordination with the participating institutions.
Under MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), authors affiliated with the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) are eligible for a 10% discount on the Article Processing Charge (APC) when publishing in MDPI journals. The list of journals along with pricing information is available HERE.
Conditions for receiving the discount:
At least one of the authors must be affiliated with MUG.
When submitting the article, an email address from the gumed.edu.pl domain must be used.
The IOAP program must be selected in the final step of the submission form, where the author is asked to indicate the institution eligible for the discount.
In addition to Open Access journals that charge authors publication fees, there are also Diamond (or Platinum) Open Access journals. In these journals, authors are not required to pay any fees, and the content is freely accessible to all readers.
Below is a list of such journals indexed in the trusted Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), along with the ministerial point values awarded for publishing in them. After logging into the Extranet, a list including the Impact Factors of these journals is also available.
However, before deciding to publish in one of these journals, we recommend verifying that no publication fee is required, as policies may occasionally change.
